Pathways to Education
Pathways to Education provides opportunity for youth to improve school achievement, engage in positive social activities and improve relationship building, gain life skills and increase self-esteem. By becoming part of the network of community members who care about youth, as a tutor or a mentor, you can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.
Tutor's Role
-
Provide academic support to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.

Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
Mentor's Role
-
Take the lead in supporting a youth through an ongoing one-to-one or group relationship.
-
Serve as a positive role model and friend.
-
Facilitate youth group through evening program of activities.

Prepare and run inclusive, engaging activities.
Tutors and Mentors Qualifications:
-
ability to communicate with youth openly and without judgement
-
ability to establish a relationship based on shared responsibility and respect
-
interest in needs and concerns of persons with internal and external barriers to achieve success
-
sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural or racial backgrounds
-
practical problem-solving skills and ability to suggest options and alternatives
-
friendly, patient and sensitive to a diversity of students
-
a capacity to tutor either English, math, science, geography, history or French
-
a capacity to tutor English language learners and exceptional students
-
familiar with Grade 9 and 10 curriculum
