F&ST Families

Being a parent can be wonderfully rewarding… but it's also hard work. Today's families are busy. Children face many pressures growing up. Family life can bring unexpected problems. We want our children to be successful, safe and supported at school and at home.

How do other parents manage? What are some ideas that can help families get over the "rough spots"? How can we bring more togetherness and fun into our family and become more connected with the school?

Families and Schools Together could be your answer.

GOALS OF THE F&ST PROGRAM

  • Enhances Family functioning by strengthening the parent-child relationship.
  • Assists parents in improving their children’s behaviour and performance in school.
  • Increases the family’s knowledge and awareness of substance use and its impact.
  • Reduces the stress that parents and children experience from daily life situations.

Families must have a child enrolled in Junior or Senior Kindergarten for the Early Childhood F&ST or a child enrolled in Grades 1 through 3 for the Elementary F&ST. All Family members from infants, through Senior public, teen years to adults are encouraged to participate in the program.

Families gather with other families weekly for eight or ten sessions at the child's school.

As a parent you'll find:

  • A free evening meal for your family.

  • Assistance with transportation.

  • Free childcare &children enjoy adult supervised games and fun activities.

  • A quiet time for you to talk to other adults about parenting, school, the community, and life in general.

  • One on one quality time with your child. Information about your child's school and helpful community resources.

After "graduating" from the eight-week series of meetings, Families & Schools Together graduates are invited to take part in a F&STWORKS group that meets once a month.
